Indiana Jones' first name comes from the name of George Lucas's dog. During the sequence where Indy is looking for Marion (who is kidnapped by Nazis and trapped in a basket) there was planned to be a long fight between Indy and a swordsman. Harrison Ford was very ill at the time, and asked Steven Spielberg if there was anything that could be done to shorten the scene. Spielberg replied that the only way he could shorten it was if Indy just pulled out his gun and shot the guy. The entire crew laughed at this joke - and it was decided to shoot the scene that way. The Nazi spy on the airplane who is keeping a close watch on Indiana Jones while pretending to read a copy of Life Magazine is ILM special effects master Dennis Muren. The pilot of the Flying Wing who is knocked out by Marion is the film's producer, Frank Marshall. |
