The Bates mansion is virtually identical to a house seen in the painting "House by the Railroad" (1925) by the American artist Edward Hopper. After Hitchcock hired Anthony Perkins to play Norman Bates, he handed Perkins some money and told him to "Go buy Norman some clothes." He did - and those were the clothes he wore in the film. |
